The story is definitely enticing and is just the beginning of deep sea exploration ... Wonder what the IPO will open at ... surely not the last PPS for OPI (CA$0.15).

Roulston's report was several pages long. Nautilus should post it on their website or one could email Nautilus and ask for a copy - wouldn't hurt to try.

Merry

That highly mineralized chunk of rock is what is called in geological parlance a "black smoker". This is the mineral crystal chimney that is a conduit of the superheated mineral laden solutions rise up and precipate their lode on the sea floor.

When Ken Darke drilled Texas Gulf's 695 foot, ten percent copper discovery hole in 1964, he intersected a black smoker that he had theorized might exist in that region. Sangster talks about them in his OGS monograms on pyroclastic associated ore deposits.

It is theorized that life on the planet may have evolved in the zinc-rich region of the black smokers. These "ore chimneys" have their own unique ecology of organsms that feed near the hot water vents.

Perhaps the copper-zinc ratios of the subaqueous vents systems mimic the zinc-copper ratios that are necessary for the human body to maintain health.
