Nixon ordered his critics "destroyed". You can hear him in the Watergate tapes ordering Kerry "destroyed" and so the FBI shadowed Kerry for two years. Despite the will in destroy Kerry they could never find anything he'd ever done wrong in his entire life, including his war record, his peace activism and his personal life. Nixon ordered Daniel Ellsberg destroyed too and had his shrink's office broken into, then sued him for treason, all for getting the truth out about the lies the Vietnam war was based on.
