The "Let's Blame It On The Mexicans" movement by the rightwing during an election year where their leaders have totally failed and fallen out of favor is a transparent wedge issue/smokescreen to try and change the subject and prey on peoples' racism. It won't work and it's very cynical and dishonest. The border problem should be viewed rationally. It's been going on for many decades and it's no different now that it was when Joseph Wambaugh wrote "Lines And Shadows" in the 80's. It's a sieve and an ongoing struggle, a war that can't be won. Why? Becasuse thos politicians and corporate leaders in charge like illegal immigration. The bosses make a lot of money on that cheap labor they can exploit to their heart's content. but closing our border won't be easy. It's a very long one, and then there's Canada and our seacosts as well. Sure, you could try spending ten billion to erect an Israel type security fence which stretches 700 miles, but what if they then take to the water or the air or dig tunnels or use 11 foot ladders? And who mans this 700 mile fence and arrests everyone? We would need an extra 50,000 men down there and they're all in Iraq now. Plus, who pays for this? Everything we're spending now is more and more debt, from Iraq to Katrina to Bush's tax cuts for the rich. It's all debt. Here's an idea. Charge money for citizenship to raise a trillion dollas, enough to pay off Bush's debt for this year alone. Then use some of that money to build a fence. Everyone in the world almost wants to be a US citizen so auction citizenship off to the highest bidders. Then offer amnesty for $10,000-$50,000 a head, so the hard-working illegals already here will work even harder, save up and buy themselves legitimacy. Bush has our government so broke now we desperately need to raise money.
