The Bush-Rove smearvets campaign was right out of the playbook of Goebbels the Nazi minister of propaganda, and the Hannity-Limbaughs were his megaphones, lying to the masses, calling war hero Kerry a "traitor and coward", "weak and dishonest, in league with the enemy" while proclaiming Bush ("I landed it!" on the aircraft carrier) the true war hero, even though he was a draft-dodger who went AWOl, lied about it and proved himself totally inept at war-planning. The history of modern smear campaigns is a Texan specialty. LBJ used smear campaigns in Texas races and it's no accident Tom Delay got Perry Homes in Houston to pay for the smearvets hoax. Rove has run a smear campaign in every campaign he runs, including against fellow Republicans, and no lie is too low for him. Down there, they consider nothing too dirty or dishonest for politics because politics is all about being in a position to steal the public's money. That's called "capitalism", folks. At least that's what the rightwing calls it. Free Enterprise meaning the freedom to steal. The S+L debacle and the Enron-Exxon energy gouging both centered in Texas, the two largest ripoffs ever.
