Corn is 1/8 th as efficient as sugar cane as a source of ethanol. The corn lobby has the clout with Washington where sugar cane doesn't.
It is tremendously costly to produce ethanol from corn, but the big farming lobbys hype it so that the corn fatcats can get a good price for a product that our bodies can hardly metabolize. (look at your poop after you eat it)
Meanwhile Brazil uses their sugar cane to power 100% of their vehicles.
