More Cougar Vehicles Being Delivered to Upgrade Protection for Ground Forces in Iraq

LADSON, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 2006--Force Protection, Inc. (OTCBB:FRPT - News) today announced it has received the first delivery order under a Pentagon contract awarded Tuesday (5/2) for 48 Cougar Joint Explosive Ordnance Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRV), spare parts, and field support. All vehicles will be delivered by the end of 2006, and may include additional quantities of all items. The order is worth approximately $32 million.

"The speed with which the Joint IED Defeat Organization funded these first 48 vehicles under the recently announced contract is striking," said Force Protection CEO Gordon McGilton. "We are gratified to see such a clear confirmation that the Cougar is a vital component of the ramp-up effort to better protect our troops and empower Iraq's military forces."

Explosive ordnance disposal teams and other first response units use the Cougar JERRV for protection as they identify and disarm explosive threats. More than 120 Cougar vehicles were ordered by the U.S. Department of Defense in May 2005 for all branches of the military. No fatalities have been reported in any Cougar vehicle to date.

"Force Protection will also send additional field service representatives (FSR) to Iraq and Afghanistan in advance of the vehicles to assist in training and maintenance," said Vice President of Marine Corps Programs Wayne Phillips. "This will bring to 49 the number of fully-funded FSRs and will create a support network to ensure the optimal performance and use of the Cougar vehicles the moment they hit the ground."

Troops credit Force Protection's blast- and ballistic-protected vehicles with saving their lives in the face of IEDs, which have been directly linked to more deaths of U.S. soldiers than any other weapon in Iraq. More than 100 of these specialty-armored vehicles are currently deployed.
