Wrong. Big Oil is a monopoly run by a cabal or cartel of top Saudis, Texas CEO's and others. They can do and do price-fix which is illegal. Recent mergers in Big Oil have eliminated virtually all competition and all the companies are in collusion.

Also a big lie is when the rightwing and oil hogs state the trouble is we need more refineries. The gougers have been purposely limiting the amount of refining capacity to crimp supplies. In California they've been trying to close one refinery to lessen competition even more.

About time we all agreed energy deregulation was a terrible idea, even worse that deregulating S+L's. No more. They need to be windfall profits taxed (200 billion would be fair), have their ridiculous Bush Energy P{lan tax breaks taken away and they need to be tightly regulated. Otherwise they have way too much power and can fix the price of energy any time they want with impunity.

Also, if we do need a new refinery or two, we the people can built them, and we the people can also lossen our demand for oil and gas by driving less, being more efficient and going green. It's the only solution along with a Marshall Plan to defang Big Oil and do what Brazil did 20 years ago, switch over.

Halliburton is a key criminal player. They control the Iraqi oilfields and are probably engaged in a huge ripoff scheme there. Billions in oil revenues have disappeared and Halliburton can do whatever it wants with impunity because Rummy and Cheney are protecting them. Halliburton is also guilty of close to a billion dollars in over-charging and gouging. They need to be investigated thorough, heavily fined and taught a lesson. Cheney also needs to be held accountable for Halliburton's crimes.

Also, during the California energy ripoffs, Cheney kept repeating that we needed 1300 new power plants in this country, because of the phony shortage out west. Cheney had in mind that the taxpayers pay for Halliburton and other cronies of his to build these power plants, all pollutors, and make billions off the public teat that way. Another part of Cheney's big scams.
