Of course not! Why don't you stop telling this to me and get out on the street and tell every construction contractor you see driving their pickup truck that they are a "gas pig" and they should stop driving so much to their jobsites.. Better yet.. tell them they should "telecommute".. And then go down to the local truck stop and spout off your liberal BS to the truckers down there... And last, but not least, start visiting any farms in your area and tell 'dem farmers to stop driving their equipment and their big rigs... Better yet, tell them to sell their farms in the interest of stopping those "big oil whores".. Odds are they'll give you an opportunity to take advantage of some orthodontal care.Would a similar 179 deduction (or even better a line item deduction) on solar panels for home power had a better effect on oil conservation? 1. The Section 179 provisions were passed EXACTLY for people like construction contractors and small businesses to encourage them to purchase capital equipment that would be more productive. The fact that some people chose to exploit the loophole in the provision to purpose equipment that doesn't necessary suit their business, or has "dual use" as private vehicles is something that could not legally be prevented. If they can reasonable assert that an SUV is something they require to conduct their business, then so be it. But if they convert that SUV to private use, they DON'T GET THE TAX CREDIT. 2. Solar panels would have LITTLE IMPACT on oil conservation since AS I HAVE ALREADY SHOWN, very little electricity is generated from oil fired plants. And those plants THAT do use oil, primarily use bunker oil, NOT DIESEL.Of course it would (I'm stunned every time I have to go to LA to see that the vast majority of people commuting and stuck in traffic for hours upon hours are just A SINGLE PERSON PER VEHICLE, usually on those huge behemoth SUVs. But I thought California was liberal?? All of those Hollywood stars telling us how bad the Republicans are in their grandious speeches, and then toodling off to lunch in their Ferraris and BMWs.. I suggest you roll down the window on your '81 Yugo and shout out at the top of your lungs what a bunch of Fascist Gas-Guzzling Morons they are... Get out there and lay down on I5 every day (after you make bail from the previous day's violation), with your signs demanding people get out of their cars and walk... Because obviously your message hasn't resonated with the American people. They've purchased SUVs, either because they feel they need them, or because they think they can afford them.. However, obviously with fuel prices so high, that consumer equation is going to alter and they will sell those SUV, or drive them only when they absolutely need to... Voila.. the power of market forces... Something you don't understand, so you think it can be ignored. And guess what? If they do decide to sell them, they will probably take a serious hit on the price if fuel prices remain up here at these levels.. And who will purchase it? Probably some poor guy, or young kid, who can't afford one of those fancy new Hybrids.. ;0) Just shows how out of touch with reality you actually are. Same for most major cities that have a traffic problem and car pools lanes. Sounds like you need to complain to the "CHIPs" out there.. Because it's a pretty heavy fine if you're caught in the HOV lanes out here in DC driving without the requisite number of passengers. That's CONSERVATION you dumbass. Hey... conservation is great!!.. That is, if you can get people to pay attention and actually practice it. I'm ALL FOR IT, when it is accomplished by greater efficiency and productivity of business. But we can't grow an economy by conserving. We have to have NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES.... And the very fact that you REFUSE to discuss the nuclear "pebble bed" reactor option that would usher in the Hydrogen economy belies the fact that you're NOT willing to everything possible to provide alternatives to oil... As for energy companies, I would think that most would like nothing better than to have domestic sources of energy to sell to consumers. They are energy companies, not merely oil companies. BP has (had?) taken great strides towards adopting this mindset. Hawk
