Romney or McCain are probably the Republican's best shot in 2008 in my opinion, and that's not giving them a great shot nationwide. Conservatives won't like Romney's universal healthcare proposal or other moderate positions. He might even lose MA. It's one thing to run and win the Governorship, where issues are different and local, and a whole other to win a national election. Romney won't do well in the liberal northeast or west coast. Southerns and evangelicals won't be inspired by him and they will stay home. McCain will get some moderates excited, but he has alienated the Republican base, so he's another dud with the hardcore voting blocks on the right. Not looking good for the Rs at all. We'll have to see how this fall's election goes to get a better handle on the Presidential race in 08.
