$3.50 gas now about 75 cents gouging, 75 cents war premium and China fears, $2 real cost. That's my guess. China is a factor, but so are the gougers, and their deliberate attempts to jack up the price any way they can including by limiting supply. But as we found out after Jeffords switched parties, sometimes these "shortages" can be pure fiction. They just don't report how much supply they have, and there are no current laws forcing them to tell the truth.

To understand this you have to go back to WWII when the petroleum industry promised on a voluntary basis to remain non-partisan, charge fair prices and tell the truth to the government. All this stopped the day Bush-Cheney first were nominated.
