I've believed for a long time that the smoking depicted in movies was a paid-for feature. I never noticed that it was brand specific, but that's because I ignore it, knowing that the actor was paid to do that.

Look over NCIS with a fresh eye, and I hope you'll see the crafty humor in it. I like NCIS because it's truly different from CSI. It's patriotic and respectful of the military, while holding military people accountable (like JAG did). It has great humor, interesting plot lines, mystery, and great character development.

I was unaware of JAG for the first five or so years, so the reruns are often new to me. I can watch them at 8 am if I want, which isn't convenient. At first I was turned off by the promo trailer which touted Harman Rabb's rebuilding of his career as a JAG lawyer after night blindness forced him off flight duty. It seemed a bit gratuitous to me.

A relative was a Marine JAG lawyer. He spent the better part of his career prosecuting Vietnam fragging cases. That would be a depressing duty indeed.
