Stupidity and hysteria brought us the Iraq war. I don't recommend stupidity. I doubt, in this area, we could have much of a "War On Climate". What we would probably get is more research, which is what I want. I think your analogy is inapt- but I doubt I will convince you. I can think of innumerable instances where a certain amount of hysteria has moved mountains in terms of allowing scientific research to leap forward. Interestingly I just read two books on the subject- one involving an outbreak of plague in the Victorian era (in China), and one involving the crisis created by the Spanish Flu, and I have a third to read on the race to cure polio. So we'll just have to disagree on the value of hysteria in the scientific arena.
