Planet approx 4 1/2 billion years old. But the Earth we see today didn't exist until several millions of years ago. Much of what we are familiar with has been caused by rotational shifts and volcanic action.

For instance, the Andes mountains used to be on the Pacific seabed. Near some of their peaks you can find fossilized seashells. And there is evidence that at one time the arctic polar cap was geographically in the region where Hawaii is today.
