re: But your data on Korea is faulty. The official death toll is 54,246, but that includes all service member deaths at the time of the Korean War. In theater there where 33,686 battle deaths ,and 2830 non-battle deaths, for a total of 36516 deaths. The war lasted 3 years so the deaths per year where far greater than the average in Vietnam, and of course enormously greater than in Iraq.

Sorry, don't know what I was thinking.

re: Even if we invade Iran (and I don't think its going to happen) there is very little chance of the death totals being much worse than Vietnam. Also if we invade Iran, that would be "the war in Iran" not part of the Iraq war.

What if Iran invades Iraq? What if Syria invades Iraq? What if a true religious war breaks out between multiple countries in the Middle East?

Nothing in the ME happens without multiple reactions. This will probably last generations. Are we going to be involved for through all the repercussions, or will we "cut and run"?

Who knows? I expect the worst. You've expected the best, and still seem to be there. So far I'm right... but we're just beginning.
