I was in West Africa in 1999. Here's how the culture is the regarding relationships: 1. A man can have multiple wives. 2. If a man wants a divorce he puts his wife's belongings on the front doorstep. The marriage is dissolved. 3. A man can have a "test" wife for up to a year. By the end of the year he has to make a decision whether she will be a permanent wife or leave. 4. A man can also have concubines. Now, you're upset about polygamy? :)

I hope you don't think I'm endorsing polygamy? One wife and 2 daughters and a female cat is all the women I need in my life, that is for sure.

I'm not sure that it inherently degrades women, but in practice I think it does tend to have that effect.
