The notion that we should be subservient to others is responsible for the mess we are in.

There is a big difference between the word serve and the word subservient.

Only individuals who are radically selfish(without actively hurting others or violating their basic rights) accomplish great things.

The common word is human if one does not accomplish something that serves Planet Earth Inhabitants there is no value.

The greatest minds in the history of mankind accomplished what they did by unrelentingly pursuing their goals and not by "nobly" serving others.

The goal frequently comes from a need or purpose to increase ease. Pursuing that goal might seem as being oblivious to all else around. The creator is man and the end result is a service to man.
