But that was before the "Helengrad" regime, right? I really don't know that much about NZ and what I think I do know I mostly owe to Maurice and the Tolkien movie. <grin>

Property taxes are really more of a levy than a tax aren't they? Just an attack on an asset, usually a totally an unproductive asset.

OTOH in some ways I am less offended by property taxes than others because here in the US in many places they are more transparent and go mostly to local uses that have some visibility. Here in GA and FLA most property tax goes to the local school system, which may not be as big a waste as sending the funds to the fed or to the state.

Anyway, I have always paid lots of property tax, like them or not.

But taxes are not really the reason the USA lefties like my cousins speak of NZ in such reverential tones, it is because they admire the "buldgery" that Maurice is being forced to pay for.
