I've never considered Las Vegas to really BE part of the USA, but rather an artificial imaginary region, like Hell. It's a city that exists to serve the basest desires of men. Don't get me wrong, I like it on occassion. But, it's not really representative of America.

I'm from California and have probably been to Vegas somewhere between 60-100 times. I love it!~

The juxtaposition of travelling from a Muslim country to Las Vegas would seem to me to be especailly jarring...

Traveling from a Muslim country to almost any non-Muslim country is jarring. Even Turkey is refreshing compared to here, and it is a Muslim country!
