Apparently, the Iranian president missed the coverage

There's not reason to think he missed it. He just didn't mention the reaction of the people, only the government. Why do you think he missed it?

It was not a "bad or awful event".

In my lexicon, things don't get any badder than "horrendous," which was the word he used. "Horrendous" is even badder than "enormous," which was your word.

I find your arguments thin, at best. You have to be really looking for a nit to pick to find fault with the statement you quoted.

Horrendous isn't good enough? Horrendous satisfies me.

"September Eleven was a horrendous incident."

I can't say I find your arguments on this very compelling.

You can, of course, read the Iranian president's statement any way you want to. There are some interesting points in the letter that would make a good discussion, but I can't say you've really hit on any of the points I saw. Your points may interest someone else.
