Intensive care is expensive.
Off the top of my head, and these are be old charges, and are not confined to kiddies,...the cost of a vent is 2200 bucks per day. EKG without interpretation I think 250. Same thing for an arterial blood gas. Breathing treatment is about 60; maybe multiply that by 4-12/day. X ray, blah, blah.
Adds up fast. I'll see if I can find some costs on the net later, or call work if I get motivated. Doesn't even count the charge for the room (which covers the nurses). I think an ICU room runs close to 2K/day.
What gets down to me? 30 bucks an hr.
