"IMHO this is quite bullish for Palladium."

That's my thinking also. I have invested in the physical metal by purchasing 100 ounces of the newly minted $50 Canadian Palladium when it came out last year. I was going to buy more this Spring but the price shot from $280 to where it is now rapidly. I kept on waiting for a pullback. Whoops.

"Global output of both metals almost even."

Yes I was surprised when I first discovered that but as you can see from the historical chart Palladium at one point exceeded Platinum's price. Overall though since Platinum has a little wider use I suspect under normal conditions it will retain a premium to Platinum.

"Metals output declining in Russia
"while in Russia, Norilsk Nickel are forecasting a 7% decline in palladium volumes to 2.9 million ounces (91.0 tonnes) and a 7% fall in platinum production to 895,000 ounces (21.6 tonnes)"

I definitely like that part.

"Downside >> both metals heaviest use in auto industry which I expect to have rough times later this year..."

As for Palladium I know Stillwater and I think one other miner have been successfully promoting Palladium as an alternative to Platinum in Jewelry.

I worry about the auto market also but consider that much of the globe have yet to introduce the stricter pollution controls that Europe, the US, and Japan have that necessitate the need for catalytic converters. IE a large market is looming on the horizon.
