Phil > I understand that since then, in some instances, reverse migration is also taking place, that is Jews returning to Russia and East Europe, and in apparently significant numbers

Sure, very much so and from what I hear on Radio Deutsche Welle, there is more Jewish immigration taking place to Germany than to any other country. And I do know many have returned to Russia as well. But does that mean that Russia is a "lap-dog" of the US? I hardly think so.

> Then there is also a problem within Israel between "European Jews" and others apparently, with claims of discrimination etc.

The main problem is with Jews of "colour", eg Yemenites. The Ashkenazis, ie European Jews and no relation to Nazis, BTW, dominate Israeli society.

> Understandably, most Jews wishing to emigrate from Israel and elsewhere desire the U.S.

I suppose they have all heard about the American Dream which, when they get there, they find out is more of a nightmare. The grass always looks greener when one is a tourist compared to when one is an immigrant.

Re: The reasons for return to Russia and East Europe is because of increased opportunity and wealth in Russia, along with, of course, home sickness. They apparently feel safe enough and do not expect problems like antisemitism?
