The difference is that you can instantly tell if the supermarket has provided me with fresh fruit and vegetable, but can you really judge how long it should have taken you to recover and if all the right procedures were fallowed? And then there is the matter of frequency. I go to the supermarket a lot more often than I go to a heart surgeon. There is no easy path for me to pass on my experience with the surgeon to the rest of the community...for these reasons and a number of other similar reasons, P&L is not such a good measure of a medical care's effectiveness.

I am a libertarian at heart, but many libertarians I come across seem to have been blinded to the realities by their ideology.
