Can you reset that stat to "2001 to present"? And maybe add some depth by looking at specific income groups?

The premise is wrong so the argument doesn't hold water.

Should we be surprised? Not really. We've simply reaffirmed an old truth: The pursuit of affluence does not always end with bliss.

Maybe that's because people are not doing as well as the numbers provided by the author suggest. In fact, more and more its appearing that the lower class is growing in size; that people are strapped like never before:
