I take it you are not from a wealthy family.

We were far from wealthy, but I did inherit a small amount from two of my grandparents when they passed away. I think something like only 8% of Americans have received an inheritance (as I recall), so in terms of inheritance I'm way above average compared to most Americans, but we weren't what you would call wealthy, i.e., not working was never an option.

I don't think children need to inherit $20 million in stock, houses, property, whatever. I think taxing things they didn't earn makes a lot more sense to me than taxing things they/I did earn twice (ie, the capital gains tax).
