I see things a little differently

The problem is that many of thje party's big funders really and truly believe in the Bush slightly light agenda pushed by the DLC and Hillary Clinton.

Allowing a progressive Democrat to run (much less win) is to them a greater evil than another GOP victory IMHO.

Because if truth be told these people are much closer to the GOP policy wise than they are to the progressive base of the party.
