You mean *you* are unable to see a solution. I don't have this problem. Regardless of whether private or state-run, gathering proper statisitics will reveal which operations are performing above average and which ones below.

Who said anything about being a monopoly? I see no reason why one should force the doctors to work only for the government, just as I see no reason why the people should not demand healthcare from their government. The two system can run side-by-side and so long as the same performance measurements are applied to them, they will compete effectively with each other for the vote/money of the people.

[edit: What you are missing in your quest for "freedom" is that the powerful, be it government or corporation, will always use its freedom to erect barriers and curtail the freedom of others to compete with them. True freedom therefore does not arise out of limiting government or corporations, but rather by pitting one category of power against another and ensuring the free flow of information to all participants.]
