First, let me make it clear that my main problem here is another illegal leak of classified info that harms national security while we are at war is plastered on the front page of every major paper. The illegal leak & the illegal reporting of it were done by lunatic libs who wish to harm Bush by any means necessary. That outrages me to no end!
Why? Ellsberg got away with it. :-) And he is another of their heroes.

RE: your reply - The article specifically said they "do not listen in" to or record calls. Instead they track the numbers called to certain countries for patterns that match those of known/suspected terrorists.

Under those circumstances there can be no expectation of privacy.

Why not? The gov't has my ss#. It does NOT have the right to publicize it. The same applies to most info on a tax return. It does not have the right to know what books I have in my house unless it goes before a judge and gets a search warrant. If it CANNOT listen to the content of my phone conversations without a court order (which it can't) I can see no reason why it has the right to know who I am talking to.

Totally agree with that, w2...Trial by newspaper. The lady who wrote the USA article, Leslie Cauley, has a book about ATT and the failure of the company. Maybe someone at ATT leaked the info to her, and noted that Qwest hasn't turned over their records to NSA.... THEREBY notifying the murdering barbarians of that info, and that it might be safe using Qwest lines....
