American Oriental Bioengineering Shares Rise in Premarket Trading As 1st-Quarter Profit More Than Doubled

NEW YORK (AP) -- American Oriental Bioengineering Inc., a China-based maker of herbal supplements, on Friday said first-quarter profit more than doubled as revenue soared.
Net income jumped to $4.9 million, or 8 cents per share, compared with $2.2 million, or 5 cents per share, during the year-ago period. The number of shares outstanding increased to 61.3 million from 42.7 million.

Revenue climbed 98 percent to $19.1 million from $9.7 million last year.

The company said sales of its Cease Enuresis Soft Gel and Patch product, along with its Shuanghuanlian Injection Powder, more than doubled during the quarter.

In premarket electronic trading, shares rose 31 cents, or 6 percent to $5.45. On Thursday, shares closed at $5.14 on Thursday on the American Stock Exchange
