There's certainly some merit to your point based on the past (Dell's attitude to AMD). However, it is more likely NOT going to happen IMO. Why?
....HPQ , SUNW, RACK , Acer, CRAY, IBM and "all the other Tier2 + WBMakers" have "zero" reliability problems with Opteron since nearly 3 years now! If Dell came out with another one of those old FUD stories, they'd just be laughed out of town IMO !

That's far fetched given Opteron's success so far...if it did happen and Dell issued faulty motherboards it would be suicide for them and HP could just bring in the mop...

the only thing wrong with your scenario(s) is that is presumes that Hector is a babe in the woods and that he would fall for something like this...Hector is a streetfighter by history

AK, I don't think Intel would want the temporary Dell adoption, even followed by a drop, so I think Dell won't do that. :)
