Since Opteron has become competitive across all sectors, market dynamics have irreverisibly been altered.

The consumer now has choice in every sector, unless of course they buy from the dinosauric Dell.

AMD, with its highly flexible manufacturing process seems to have adopted a boutique approach (vs. INTC's department store mentality) in dealing with its customer base. It is this "boutiqueness" that now is a primary differentiator between AMD and INTC.

As the MUCH smaller competitor, and again, with APM production flexibility, AMD can pander to its customer base much more than can INTC.

Even if AMD stands still and INTC is able to produce high yielding NGA product, (neither even nearly a given I'd say), AMD's "Boutique" approach is likely to attract more than enough demand to keep AMD running on all cylinders to catch up to demand.

I can't stress enough the idea that market dynamics are now very different from the pre-Opteron times when INTC could sweep AMD off the stage any time it so desired.

I suspect that we are about to get a peak at these new dynamics over the next few months as AMD reshapes its product lineup from SC to DC, firstly with Turion X2's and then later with the unveiling of AMD's first 65nm DC's in the fall.

AMD's 65nm DC product, as the 90nm Turion X2's, I suspect will more than whet the appetite of the the rapidly growing AMD customer base.

AMD, with its fab 36, is young, innovative and highly flexible. Even were AMD to stand still for 6 months, which I highly doubt, it is their innovative and high flexibility that will win the additional sku's to continue gaining Revshare for the foreseeable future.

Intel in an improvement cycle is NOT the same as Intel in a SUPERIOR cycle. They will just be LESS BEHIND for a while. That's what he said, whether you choose to believe it or not.
