"Looks like one innovation Turion X2 might bring is a higher price tag. Official prices for single-core Pentium M CPUs were anywhere between 35-100% higher than those of the equivalent Turion MT. Right now it looks like the 1.6GHz - 1.8GHz Turion X2 pricing may fall roughly in the same range as the Turion MT-34 - MT-40 ($189-$268)."

Surely you don't see that as a negative for AMD?

"Intel is expected to drop Core Duo prices at the end of this month. The 1.86GHz Core Duo is expected to drop from $294 to $241. AMD could be offering Turion X2 with performance/price disadvantage (at least in 32-bit) compared to Intel's Core Duo. I believe AMD will have a more difficult time pitching 90-nm Turion X2 against Core Duo then they did pitching Turion against Pentium M."

"Could" and "I believe" are the operatives in the above statement. Core Duo with 32-bit only is en route to extinction.

Let's just wait for the Turion X2 unveiling before hypothecating too much on how it will fare. I won't be too surprised if Turion 64 X2's kick off isn't accompanied by several significant design wins.

Remember, AMD isn't currently all that competitive in the 60M plus units/annum notebook space. With Turion 64 X2's now entered into the notebook competition, I can't help thinking that AMD's current portion of the 60M units/annum notebook segment is likely to increase, perhaps significantly so if Turion 64 X2's offer some new and innovative performance features.

Here's another post summarizing the current view from an alternative perspective to some being posited on this thread:

I can't find anything too contentious in the foregoing post;-)
