I think its more than 6million. If you look at a map at the time the UN divided Palestine, you wouldnt believe how tiny it was. Thats all they wanted and even if there were some who dreamed of greater israel, once the UN resolution was passed and assuming the arabs accepted, the Jewish state would have voluntarily done anything to become a pariah state especially if that would have alienated the US. Passing on the UN partition was the most stupid thing the arabs ever did and they have done some really stupid things both before and after.
