Let's do a mind experiment. A book is published whose plot relies on a revised history of the Nazis. In the book Nazis are pure hearted saints victimized by a sinister conspiracy of British Blue bloods. But it's very exciting and well written and little historical lies dropped here and there makes it even sound plausible. The author insists in interviews that the historical lies are in fact true.

Wonder if it'd be controversial?

The Advance Code is a novel FICTION NOVEL. Odd, that so many people seem to forget that part...FICTION Novels are FICTION.

Brown must be laughing every single day...He has done what is expected of a novelist....Take some every day facts (i.e. how many feet around the entire Louve') and weave in an imaginary, but believable, story....

Sell MILLIONS of books = Author's Dream

OK, I read the book. It's FICTION, not blasphemy.

Suppose I were a religious demagogue bent on suppressing The Da Vinci Code. The LAST thing I would do would be to charge blasphemy.

Such a charge only attracts the curious who would otherwise not read it. Then they form opinions about Christianity based on what they read in the book, because they have no other background.

If I wanted to destroy the book, I would ridicule it as a piece of unbelievable doggerel, and then simply ignore it.

That won't happen, because it's a page turner. People with charges of blasphemy on their lips are just adding to the book's success.

It's FICTION.
