Lindy won't like it if we spend much time on this.

I was engaging DMA's mind experiment, the what-if about the Nazis and the Brits, not Brown's book. Seems to me that a poster who is into mind experiments would appreciate the mind experiment that is Brown's book. I guess he doesn't see it that way.

As for Brown's book, I'm reminded of an old discussion about sci-fi books and movies about the environment. Folks were complaining about lies and half truths in them. But that's what novelists do. They make up stories and they come up with enough facts, half-truths, and lies to produce an engaging yarn that's plausible enough for the reader to suspend disbelief. There have always been stories about Knights Templar and Masons and Mary Magdalene out there. He just embellished and spun them all together. I can find no fault in it.

I haven't seen a movie in a theater since Jurassic Park, the first one. The friend who called and suggested we go see this one hasn't been to the movies in about as long. But we're planning to see this one. I'm sure Brown's bank account is loving the controversy.

I posted the review figuring that it would cause some comment. I think yours about the increase in interest in the Bible is on the mark.

I only get upset with religious comment here when people start quoting bible verses to "prove" a point.

The controversial allegation in the Da Vinci Code is that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene

Odd coincidence that almost all the women around Jesus were named Mary.

Christ committed the sin of fornication and was married to a sinner is, apparently, insult upon insult

The insinuation that Jesus was a mortal man, made in several ways in the book. is a bit more than an insult, and shouldn't be so easily shrugged of by a Christian.

there's no reason to think that the "woman taken in adultery" is the same person as Mary Magdalene

BTW it was Pope Gregory that started that story.

Lindy posted about it, that invites comment. He'll let it be know when he's had enough.
