It is puzzling that unit shipments were down in q1, and revenue (implying units) is expected to be flat for q2. Where did fab 36 production go ? Not to revenue. And not to inventory. Does "low" mean "close to nothing" ? But that also doesn't make sense.

You ask: "Where did the fab 36 production go" as if there was any production in the past. There wasn't, and the fab 36 contribution was close to nothing in Q2.

As far as where does the fab 36 production go now, this is a speculation on my part, but I think it is going to Rev F chips. Those sales are slowly taking off (to distributors and OEMs) prior to launch. So they are going basically to inventory and newly built parts.

Also, temporarily, AMD will be keeping 2x SKUs due to the socket change.

I am sure AMD wants to get to more normal inventory, after being extremely low in past 2 quarters so that's one destination of output. Another destination is increasing die size, due to conversion of mainstream Athlon 64 line to DC.

Deferred income on shipments to distributors

Q4 2005 - $141,898,000

Q1 2006 - $194,940,000

Perhaps this increase was from fab 36?
