I agree with you completely. No doubt terrorists will now factor in the probability that passengers will take the initiative. I hope we don't find out, but if we do, I hope the terrorists get their due and the rest of the passengers survive.

There is an inexplicable bias against self-defense in this country, foisted off on us by left wingers who insist that the government will save us from what ever goblins are out there. That this has been disproven over and over does not register with them.

I'd rather get killed jumping a hijacker, knowing that I'm taking my best shot at survival

I agree with that, but only if jumping the hijacker is the best chance of survival.

It's better to have your mind made up, way ahead of time, that you are going to take the initiative as soon as you can

We have to be smart about assessing the scenario. If you're a man being mugged by a street gang in an alley, taking action is not your best chance of survival. If you're a woman being shoved into a car in a grocery store parking lot, your best chance of survival is, indeed, taking action. It's great to have your mind made up ahead of time, but all crime scenes aren't the same so you need to have different plans for different scenarios. It's really dumb to jump a hijacker with a bomb who only wants to get to Cuba.

The thought that kept recurring to me as I watched United 93
I'm not ready to watch that yet...
