The problem with the text you cited is it implies AMD received money for chips it did not actually ship. I don't think such an event occurred. I think the deferred revenue is for chips that did ship, but they are subject to return or price protection.

My reading of the deferred revenue increase is that of the $1.3B revenue to AMD in q1, $53m went to increase distributor inventory. Not that there is an additional $53m that is not counted in revenue. If that was the case, it would just be in the inventory line.
