The "divine microbe" ....and that universe that went unseen for so long from the beginning , but never stopped man from learning to make bread , break bread nourish the body or share a good bottle of wine and beer 1000's of years ago . Probably one of the greatest shaper of human events once we tamed the grain plant species to do our bidding , was the invention/discovery of fermentaion and ingesting the fruit of the microbe. Giving rise to the poet and perhaps the philospher , and probaly a messiah or two , (and the cause of some of the worst human disasters of wildest upheavals of violence and conflict when a king had one too many and awoke offended on the wrong side of the bed ) .Yet mind altering substances also the inspiration for some of our greatest poetry literature and art too ...and the microbe certainly played a part in the origins of mysticism & religion too. Nothing (to my mind ) could be more self evident than that truth of all life ultimately evolving from microbes , and that Darwinian theory which allows our minds to operate within the new time frame of conceptualization involving a geological framework Also to my mind , nothing could be more complimentary to the advancement of religion to free itself to embrace this new way of "seeing" which in effect does remain true to all the original symbols and analogies of the "Divine Tree" which most religious creation myths all shared originally . Jesus as the "Son of God " believed in no less when he imagined his own version of a Jewish/Semite/Baylonian Eden which one could surmise is also the metaphor for his heaven as well. The Catholic , Jewish , and Islamic chirches today all embrace the idea of "geneology" which is in its essence Darwinian . Some faith-based groups accuse the others of turning Darwinism into a religion , but if only it could be that simple ...there are all the other disciplines out there besides the "old folky selective geneolgy" , from biology (and micro) , astronomy , chemistry and physics not forgetting "good old geology" that sees the world in a constant state of flux , even the rocks mountains & continents drifting themselves . How did inanimate matter eventually make that quantum leap to come together as some original self replicating microbe without the hand of God involved ? I would imagine given the affinity we now observe of chemical matter to always be in constant interaction with itself , and given a constant supply of radiant energy from the sun , plus the original geological evolutionary changes to the planetary body itself ....such a possibility would be forthcoming thru nature itself given time . And given enough time and observation , it is in the nature of man as a "percieving" creature to know , and so we will (and do ) It was only in the 1970s the revolutionary theory of "drifting continents" came onto the geological science stage with the rush of a storm giving rise to an entirely new grasp of the interaction of the plates and earth's crust . And now the discover of deep oceanic vents where you have life existing at the outer/innermost extremes of the planetary environement as we have found lichens in the extreme colds able to constantly renew themselves. ** What difference would it be if Jesus were married and had a glass of wine or two ? Probably both were certainly true... ;-)
