Sometimes even a challenge to an assertion is interpreted as an attack.

I've found that left-wingers are extraordinarily thin skinned. Once I was nearly attacked by a member of a writer's group that I participated in because of his incorrect assumption that what I was reading from my own work was an attack on his girlfriend's offering the previous week. It was not an attack, but a different perspective on the same issue. Lefties don't seem to grasp the difference. I left the group and it broke up shortly afterward.

I wish I could find a writer's group that didn't feel bound to the left wing. I really don't care if people want to think that way, but if they get offended when they hear ideas that challenge their own misconceptions, it's difficult to communicate.
