Perhaps Americans expect to take a government announcement about extraterrestrial life in stride because many Americans already believe in the extraterrestrial. Two-thirds of Americans say they think there are other forms of intelligent life in the universe and nearly half say they believe that UFOs have visited the earth in some form over the years (48 percent) or that aliens have monitored life on earth (45 percent).

Maybe why Americans don't react negatively to Bush's wiretapping may be due to their ongoing belief that someone is watching us, and since that is the case, it might as well be fellow Americans as opposed to something foreign and/or alien. It might also explain American's heightened sense of xenophobia.........and preference for monster movies where the monsters get killed.

Is it possible to put an entire nation under therapy? <g>
