I remembered those lines from a movie made in 1960 from a Louis L'Amour novel, called "Guns of the Timberlands." The IMDB blurb says it's the worst movie Alan Ladd ever made, but I remembered it fondly. The movie version messed with the novel's plot a LOT, as they were prone to do back then. imdb.com

I wish I could remember the rest of the lines to that song.

I DO remember the lines to a song from a movie made even earlier, in 1955. The movie was called Timberjack, and it was made on the Big Blackfoot river in Montana, which was near where I grew up. imdb.com
