I Juneau, the population soars from about 30,000 to 40,000 when five or more cruise ships are docked.

I lived for a time across from the cruise ship dock. You could hear the anchor chains going down early in the morning.

Those cruise ships are amazing. They have side thrusters on them to deal with docking in tight places. Way topheavy, though, in my opinion.
