The federal government has to protect their interests. Their .$18 a gallon tax brings in more $$$ than all the big oil companies profits combined.

"Cooking their books" suggests something illegal. If they are getting tax loss coverage from the gov't, then its annoying but its not something illegal. That was the point I was making to AS.
