One thing for sure is that if change is to occur it starts at the hearts of the American people. Representatives, whether corporate, governmental, heads of families, or other social groupings have a conscience. To the extent they sacrifice that for loyalty to anything less deserving than the natural human nobility of common goodness, is the extent to which they have failed their very soul. Social conscience, therefore, has a target. We are looking at both the individual who has a conscience and the social target of that conscience. It is not enough just to expect our representatives to perform their duties in a noble manner. The people who they represent must demand as much. We must support noble human character and withhold our support from those who would represent us in any other manner. Social conscience also has a measure. The measure of social conscience may be determined by the amount needed to move the integrity of our principle based society from the status quo of tolerance for corruption. For better or worse that threshold has been met at several times in US history: The Revolution for Independence, The Westward expansion under the premise of Manifest Destiny, The Civil War, Both World Wars, The social and civil rights movements of the 50's and 60's. So NOW we are once again being put to such a test. Will we do what is called for? It begins in the hearts and souls of the citizenry. The Consciousness of the American People is and always has been 'Of the people.' The moment we stop demanding representation that is our highest esteem as a people, the grand experiment begun in the enlightenment age is over. The fact that we have a corrupted two party system where half the population supports corrupt politicians on one side trying to get away with things against the other side and visa versa, is the direct responsibility of those of you who fund them and vote for them. Decency starts with one person and spreads as resonance to others, just as decadence does.
