"Quadruples the risk. Really. " Sure. If you think that changing gate insulator and material is going to linearly add risk, you clearly don't know what you are talking about. Remember all the problems with low-k? Everybody had problems with it, including Intel. Well, that wasn't anywhere near of a fundamental change as high-k and metal gates. Manufacturers have silicon down cold. Novel materials have trouble written all over them. Else they would have been using them for a while.
