Apparently that battleship is nothing special. It's not like it's of great historical import. Also, SF harbor is already crammed with parked vessels and I believe there's already some kind of Naval museum there. It's expensive aquatic real estate and the citizens of the city have a perfect right to deny some rusted old destroyer from becoming an eyesore. It if were a big tourist dollar generator I'm sure they'd agree in a micro-second. So it's not about being anti-military, though many in that area of the country are pacifists. It's mainly about economics.

So if you really care, raise 10 million bucks and buy a slip and a ship. Park it there and see if you can make your money back.

Smithee, The San Francisco Board of Supes must be more sheltered from reality than was previously thought. After all, the much venerated Mothball Fleet, which sports some quite impressive battleships and submarines, is only a few miles away from San Francisco. - Holly
