And the last time Congress passed a windfall profits tax two things happened: 1. Oil production dropped like a stone. 2. The cost of the "tax" was passed on to the consumer (as all taxes on products and services are). When oil companies were hurting financially in the 1980s and people in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado were losing their homes because of the "oil Bust." Where was the Congress to help them with their pain then? Remember, the "big oil companies" are just people -- tens of thousands of people like you family and neighbors who work in offices, oil fields, pipelines, ships, trains, trucks, etc. all to make it possible for you to get gasoline from your local gas station.
