Chavez is being driven away from the US by Bush's rightwing extremism. A smart US president would be mending fences, not making threats. Why? Because we need Chavez's oil until we can replace oil as our primary fuel, and Venezuela is a lot closer and less dangerous than the Gulf.

Despite the fact Chavez may go too far, he was voted into office and has the right to nationalize anything he wants, so long as the voters support him. I will be the first to condemn Chavez if he I find out he cancelled an election like Bushies were talking about doing last year. But until then, he has to be dealt with.

Bushies deal with semi-dictators and full-on dictators all the time. In fact their best friends overseas seem to be dictators like the Saudi Royal family and the UAE rulers in Dubai. They just dislike Chavez because he forced big oil companies to lower their commissions.
