Nokia secured 26.9% of total handset sales in China, during the first quarter of this year, the largest market share of any brand, whether international or local, according to the China-based CCID Consulting. A total of 24.99 million handsets were sold in China last quarter, and both this figure and the corresponding sales value of 36.83 billion yuan (US$4.56 billion) were the highest on record for any quarter, CCID indicated. Following Nokia, in terms of market share, were Motorola with 13.4% and Samsung with 9.02%, while the aggregate share by all local brands had continued to fall, for nine consecutive quarters, to 36.9%. Ningbo Bird and Lenovo were the top two local brands, CCID added.
